Together with Planet Science and Dr George Speller, we've prepared a selection of fun and educational ideas for the classroom to tie in to some of the great activities at the Cambridge Science Festival this year

Schools Roadshow:

Each year, as part of our Cambridge Science Festival activities, University lecturers visit schools throughout Cambridgeshire to give a series of talks on aspects of their research, tailored to the National Curriculum.

If you would like to receive information about the Schools Roadshow 2008 and to ensure you get a copy of the programme, contact the Information Centre on 01223 766766 or email csf@admin.cam.ac.uk

In 2008, we are able to offer five school outreach and access programmes in addition to those featured in our full events programme:

Water Fleas Experiment

19 February - 14 March
Dr Jenny Koenig is attending primary schools with an interactive session involving water fleas (Daphnia). The session aims to introduce children to simple experimental methods. Younger children will be able to fish for fleas and identify parts of their anatomy. Older children will be able to assist in performing heart-rate experiments on the Daphnia with drugs such as caffeine and cold medicine. If you would like more information about availabilities and arranging a visit to your school this year, please contact us on 01223 766766 or email csf@admin.cam.ac.uk

Build- a- Brain Workshop

31 January - 19 February
Scientist-turned-artist Dr Lizzie Burns is taking her workshop out to primary schools. Pupils will get the chance to explore how the brain works using modelling techniques to create sculptures of the brain. This event is now fully booked. Teachers interested in future visits in 2009 can enquire by emailing csf@admin.cam.ac.uk

Schools Roadshow

10 - 14 March
The Schools Roadshow enables University of Cambridge lecturers to give special science and maths talks in local schools, tailored to the National Curriculum. The Roadshow team can only accept forms until 15 February from teachers who have previously been sent them. Teachers interested in future visits in 2009 can enquire by emailing csf@admin.cam.ac.uk

Schools Masterclasses

5 - 7 March; and 15 March
The Masterclasses invite groups of GCSE students to Cambridge for a day of talks and tours. This gives the students the opportunity to experience life at a higher education institution and an insight into scientific study at university. The GCSE Masterclasses from 5-7 March are now fully booked. Teachers interested in future visits in 2009 can enquire by emailing ad2@pem.cam.ac.uk . Sixth formers are welcome at a masterclass on 15 March, please email ad2@pem.cam.ac.uk.

Women@CL Outreach Day

18 March
Led by 6 female research students from Cambridge University's Computer Laboratory, this is an exciting day of interactive workshops and hands-on experience to introduce A-level Maths students to the problem-solving nature of Computer Science as a discipline. It is particularly appropriate for students who like maths but who have not considered Computer Science as an option. We strongly encourage female students to attend. To apply for a space during this day, please contact Cecily Morrison by emailing cpm38@cam.ac.uk
